New Fuel Cell Membrane Development Initiative

Chemsultants is pleased to announce its newest product development technology initiative in the area of polymer exchange membranes for hydrogen fuel cells (PEMFCs). In order to develop a timely technology base in this exciting new technology, Chemsultants has acquired the majority share of AvMat Membranes, LLC, a developer of polymer exchange membrane materials and technology located in Ohio.

The primary focus of Chemsultant’s efforts will be to develop and commercialize the use of new and novel high temperature polymers for use as fuel cell membranes. Working closely with polymer and fuel cell researchers at Case Western Reserve University, Virginia Tech University, Wright-Patterson Air Force Research Laboratory, and NASA, Chemsultants has identified promising polymers destined for additional synthesis and roll casting development to form suitable fuel cell membranes in narrow web roll form.

Chemsultants is uniquely positioned to develop new film forming techniques from liquid polymers because of its extensive experience in the areas of polymer casting, and specialty roll to roll coating. While fuel cell technology is just emerging from an infancy stage it is expected to grow dramatically over the next 10 years to become a major power generation source for a wide variety of applications ranging from in - situ power stations to hand-held computing, entertainment and communication devices world-wide.

In addition to its own internal R&D initiatives Chemsultants, in conjunction with the acquisition of AvMat Membranes, LLC, has initiated a number of cooperative development proposals for additional development research including a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with the Wright-Patterson Air Force Research Laboratory.
